As Delhi Votes, AAP vs BJP Over Seized ‘Promotional Materials’, Cops Respond

During Wednesday’s Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of violating the Model Code of Conduct. AAP claimed BJP promotional material was found at several polling booths in Delhi, alleging that Delhi Police, under the Union Home Ministry, remained inactive.

The AAP, which has previously accused the Election Commission of bias, posted on X: “What is going on? There is election material openly displayed at the BJP booth… and the police are doing nothing. And the election officers are just watching.”

Police clarified that seized promotional material belonged to independent candidates, not the BJP. The AAP also tweeted a video mocking BJP workers leaving a polling booth, claiming it demonstrated their lack of support.

The AAP leveled multiple accusations of police misconduct. Greater Kailash MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged police obstructed voting in Chirag Delhi, erecting barricades and influencing voters.

Bhardwaj stated, “You (police) have been standing here since morning to influence voting. Why are barricades being put up? This is being done to disturb poor voters.” South Delhi DCP Ankit Chauhan stated that these claims will be investigated, explaining that car access is permitted for the elderly and disabled.

Voting for Delhi’s 70 Assembly seats commenced Wednesday.
