Delhi, Washington Working On PM’s Early Visit To US, Says Foreign Ministry

India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced today that preparations are underway for an upcoming visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States. A statement released this evening noted a recent phone conversation between PM Modi and President Trump.

The statement added that both sides are working towards an early visit to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Specific dates will be announced in due course.

This would be PM Modi’s first trip to the US since President Trump’s second term began.

PM Modi was among the first world leaders to congratulate President Trump following his electoral victory, referring to him as a “friend” in his congratulatory message. This message included photos of the two leaders together, many from President Trump’s 2020 visit to India.

His message stated, “As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to strengthen the INDIA-US comprehensive global and strategic partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.”

The strengthening of US-India ties occurs amidst China’s growing influence in Southeast Asia.

President Trump’s first hosting of Prime Minister Modi in Texas was a significant event, with the “Howdy Modi!” event in Houston drawing an estimated 50,000 attendees. This was reciprocated with the “Namaste Trump” event in Gujarat, India, which attracted approximately 120,000 people.
