Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a holy dip at the sangam in Prayagraj, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers, where the Maha Kumbh is being held. Wearing a saffron jacket and blue track pants, and holding rudraksha beads, he chanted prayers while taking several dips. Earlier, he took a boat tour of the sangam with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
This year’s Kumbh, attracting lakhs of Hindu devotees, was unfortunately marked by a stampede seven days prior, resulting in 30 fatalities.
Prime Minister Modi described his holy dip as a “moment of divine connection,” expressing his feeling of being “blessed” and sharing his devotion with the tens of millions of participants. He shared this sentiment on X (formerly Twitter): “The snan, or holy dip, at the sangam is a moment of divine connection. May Maa Ganga bless all with peace, wisdom, good health, and harmony.”
Blessed to be at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The Snan at the Sangam is a moment of divine connection, and like the crores of others who have taken part in it, I was also filled with a spirit of devotion.

Mr. Modi is the second high-profile BJP figure to take a holy dip at this Kumbh, following Home Minister Amit Shah and his family’s visit two days before the stampede.
His visit follows the inauguration of 167 development projects worth ₹5,500 crore in Prayagraj weeks prior. The Maha Kumbh has seen significant investment in infrastructure, including roads, sanitation, security, and digital services.
Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk also visited Prayagraj for the Kumbh, engaging in spiritual activities and visiting various sites.
